Mediatel launches MVNO - An alternative fixed-line operator, , has included mobile telephony services under the 'Telepin mobi' brand into its offer. The new virtual network operator (MVNO) is based on 's infrastructure. Mediatel plans to poach 20,000 customers by the end of the current year, which it hopes to gain mainly from Poland-resident citizens of the Ukraine, Russia and Vietnam. The company expects to generate PLN 0.5m (€150,000) revenue by the end of 2008 by offering cheap international calls via special access number to fixed-line networks in almost 60 countries at PLN 0.39 (€0.12) per minute. When this discount expires, the standard price of PLN 0.49 (€0.15) will be charged. The costs of domestic M2M calls and SMS messages are PLN 0.60 (€0.18) per minute and PLN 0.23 (€0.07), respectively. Mediatel is planning distribution abroad as well (e.g., in Vietnam) and it runs a website in six languages. 07-16-2008
CenterTelecom doubles planned capital investments for 2008 - , the fixed-line, mobile telephony and broadband operator controlled by the telecom holding , intends to spend RUB 13.5bn (€364m) chiefly on traditional telephony and transmission lines by the end of 2008. Initially, the value of spending was expected to be RUB 6.6bn (€179m). CenterTelecom operates in the territory of the Central Federal district. It also provides translation of programmes on cable television in the area. Svyazinvest owns a 38.02% package of CenterTelecom's authorised capital.07-14-2008
Mediatel to run MVNO for foreigners - , a fixed-line operator, plans to launch the first mobile virtual network operator based on the platform for Vietnamese and Ukrainians in Poland, reported. Marcin Kubit, the president of Mediatel said this is going to be the first MVNO in Poland to be directed specifically at the ethnic groups. He explained that the company intends to reach the group of 200,000 foreigners who have already used its ' Telepin VoIP service with a mobile telephony offer as well. These are mainly citizens of Vietnam and the Ukraine. Advertising, marketing and customer services will be in the target groups' languages. 05-08-2008
Napisy.org back? - The popular website offering free film subtitles in Polish, www.napisy.org, may be reactivated, according to . In May 2007, after an investigation launched at the request of distributors associated in Fundacja Ochrony Tworczosci Audiowizualnej (the Foundation for Protection of Audiovisual Works), the website was suspended and its creators questioned. Since then, however, no specific charges have been brought, and the Zabrze Regional Prosecutor doubts whether in this case the law has been broken at all. An expert assigned by the prosecutor is to state whether publishing unauthorised translations free of charge of works for which authorised translations are available is a violation of the law. 03-05-2008
Google develops its activity in Poland - announced its plans to enlarge the number of its staff in Europe by several times and to develop its Polish facilities in Krakow, Wroclaw and Warsaw. Wroclaw is already one of the key places for the company and after Dublin it may become the second operational center in Europe. The company is interested in employing 300 engineers but also some individuals who know the languages of neighbouring countries. The owner of the most popular internet browser in the world does not disclose its financial results from each respective country of Central Europe, nor its share in the market of advertisements on browsers. However, according to the latest research of Gemius, in Poland this share is around 86%. Poland is the market where Google has the strongest position in the region in terms of browsers' ads. IAB, a consulting company, estimates that the value of the Polish market for browsers' advertising in 2007 will amount to PLN 110m and according to its forecast it will top PLN 180m in 2008. 10-10-2007

O'Key enters Murmansk - The grocery chain invested some RUB 1bn ($4.3m) in the opening of a 9,000 m2 hypermarket in Murmansk. The store has become the 21st hypermarket of the chain. By the end of 2008 the company is to open hypermarkets in Nizhny Novgorod, and in 2009 O'Key hypermarkets are to appear in Moscow and Noginsk. 08-06-2008
Media Markt to add three outlets in Russia - German firm , a part of , is to add three new outlets to its Russian chain by the end of 2009. The outlets will be constructed by property developer in St. Petersburg, Kazan and Tolyatti as part of large shopping complexes each on an area of 6,000-8,200 m2, according to the portal Malls. The openings are planned for Q3 and Q4 2009. Currently, Media Markt operates 11 outlets in Russia - five in Moscow, four in St. Petersburg, one in Samara and one in Rostov-on-Don. 08-06-2008
River Island − new openings planned in Russia - Clothing retailer franchisee in Russia of the British clothing chain , is to launch the first mono-brand store in St. Petersburg under the banner in 2010. It will be located in the shopping mall on an area of 800 m2. Currently, there is only one River Island store, in the Moscow shopping centre. Overall, by 2010 the company plans to add three more River Island stores in the country. In this time frame, the retailer is also to enter with its brands into all cities in Russia and the CIS countries with a population above 500,000. Maratex is a retailer operating such international fashion brands as , , , , , , and . Currently, it runs 97 stores located in major cities of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. holds a 43.3% share of capital giving EM&F 51% of votes in Maratex. River Island operates 250 outlets in the UK, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. River Island's clothing is in the middle price bracket and is aimed at customers between 18 and 30 years of age. New cosmetics chain to open in Moscow - On 7 August 2008 , a cosmetics manufacturer, is to launch four cosmetics stores under the banner in Moscow. Stores will cover 100-150 m2 on average and will feature cosmetics and household chemistry in the middle price segment. Luxury and upper price segment products will account for 10-15% of the assortment. Investment in one unit will comprise $100,000-120,000, according to portal Intercharm.net. Other eight stores are to appear in the city by September this year and by the end of the year the network is to include 25 outlets. Nutritek launches baby food retail in Malaysia - , a Russian baby food and clinical nutrition products manufacturer, announced audited results for the financial year ended on 31 March and reported growth of consolidated revenue in 2007 by 4.7% to $396.9m. Net profit rose by 17.1% and totalled $26m. Share of baby food and clinical nutrition products in the total revenue grew to 51.6% from 39.3%. Sales of dairy products decreased by 16.5% following the sale of the Nutritek dairy business to in November 2007. In addition, Nutritek is planning to acquire a production plant in China and boost sales in the Asian markets. Revenue in Asia, where the company will sell baby food made at its plant in New Zealand, may reach $140m in the fiscal year April 2008-March 2009, according to Bloomberg. The company hopes to sell 4,000 tonnes of baby food products by Mach 2009. Nutritek will commence sales in Malaysia in July and is also planning to introduce its products in Vietnam and Indonesia within the next year. Products will be sold under the trademark. 08-06-2008
